Happy 2012! The end of 2011 was great for the SFgoL.

SFgoL had our annual elections! Our 2012 officers are President- Leland Carina, Vice President- Kate McKinley, Secretary- ava, Treasurer- Angel, and Sergeant at Arms- Pink. Two members at large were also voted in- Zed and Zabet.

We expanded our Mentor/Mentee program. People of all genders and identifications are invited to sign up to mentor our girls. Please contact Angel (nrthangel1970 at yahoo dot com) to start the process of being paired.

Our VP Kate organized a successful work-day for the Center for Sex and Culture.

Summer has been holding a pre-meeting meet-up every month to provide a space for social time before our business meetings.

Zabet organized an educational program with WOMAN Inc. We are excited about creating an ongoing relationship with their organization.

We’re working together with International Ms Leather Weekend to help them promote IMsL locally. Zed is heading this up. We’re excited to be bronze sponsors. We’ll be stuffing packets again—come out and help us!

We attended and volunteered for Alameda County Leather Corps Santa Slave Auction in support of our girl Kate who is Ms ACLC 2011. Two girls were auctioned off!

For the Leather Alliance Volunteer Appreciation party ava coordinated 15 volunteers! We very much enjoyed offering service and socializing with volunteers from the greater community.

ava also spearheaded a volunteer effort with 20 girls and supporters to help clean the new SF Citadel space.

Last, but certainly not least, we have new SFgoL pins! Please find a girl to buy one. There are Leather girl Pride flags as well as “I heart SFgoL” supporter pins.

On August 19th come dance with us at Debauchery at the White Horse in Oakland.

SFgoL is so happy to be bronze sponsors of Northwest Leather Celebration. We will be hosting the Meet and Greet on May 18th.

We look forward to continuing to contribute to the Leather community in 2012!

San Francisco girls of Leather (SFgoL) September President’s report

It’s been another great month for the SFgoL!

The end of August brought Balls to the Walls– a Leather community softball game organized by Jessie Vanciel, Daddy Ray Tilton, and Leland Carina. With major thanks for funding by the Leather Alliance and Shawn Kinnear, the event was a success with close to 40 attendees! Queen Cougar called out the sunshine with her beautiful rendition of the National Anthem and Daddy Vick kept everyone fed with pizza. Arnell and ava won MVP’s for their high-spirited participation. Kate took some hot photos of the fun antics, including spanking at bases!

Our member Summer has been hosting a pre-meeting meet up for a few months now. This is quickly becoming a tradition and provides a great place for new girls to meet some members of the group more informally than at the monthly meeting.

We had our fourth official SFgoL slumber party! This time we were fortunate to be able to hold it at the Center for Sex and Culture. It proved a great venue, thank you to Kate for securing it for us. The staff was so friendly and accommodating; they set up a huge pile of dog beds for us to cuddle on. We watched 70’s cartoon porn, played games, and ate way too many cupcakes. Epic!

Directly following the slumber party a group of our girls went to serve lunch at Glide Church soup kitchen. Thanks to our member Jess for organizing this. We will be working with Glide again in the future, as the girls had a very good time.

The Alan Spafford Progressive Dinner was very well attended by our girls with about 10 of us showing up! We had an excellent time visiting all the businesses and socializing with people from other clubs and the greater community.

If you haven’t seen it yet, please check out the article about our club in the BAR! We had such fun hanging out with Scott Brogan for the interview! Here’s the link: http://www.ebar.com/columns/column.php?sec=leather&article=178

We also walked in Mama’s Leather Walk! There’s a photo in the BAR (thanks to Scott Brogan again!) of us holding the girl colors high and proud, here’s the link: http://ebar.com/artscolumns/artcolumn.php?sec=leather&article=182

Folsom Weekend, the SFgoL hosted a discussion and play demos for Mission Control’s party called Velvet, with thanks to Kate for organizing. We were also a sponsor of Venus’ Playground (VP) at Folsom Street Fair. We volunteered for a number of shifts. Our member Sailor has been working with VP for some time and we thank her for coordinating this.

SFgoL is so excited to have officer elections coming up in October! It marks the one year anniversary of when we voted in our official bylaws!

Much love,
Leland Carina
President SFgoL

The San Francisco girls of Leather (SFgoL) are so happy to welcome ava as our new Secretary and Angel as our new Treasurer!

We are also proud to report that we now have 30 full members! We are excited that without fail every month we have new girls who are attending their very first meeting.

August brought a successful end to our toiletry drive. Since we had already overwhelmed La Casa de las Madres with the generous donations from the Leather community, we dropped the remaining 9 boxes off to Women Organized to Make Abuse Nonexistent, Inc. (WOMAN Inc.) This marked the start of a new relationship between WOMAN Inc. and the SFgoL. Our member Z is taking lead on organizing volunteer opportunities. During August we helped stuff gift bags and staffed their volunteer appreciation party.

Our mentor/mentee program within the SFgoL is going so well that we have decided to expand it! We are welcoming members of the Leather community to contact us if they would like to offer mentorship to one of our girls. If you have something to offer, whether it be a BDSM skill, organizational know-how, or lessons on Leather history please contact us at info@sfgol.com to be paired with a girl!

Many of our girls attended the San Francisco Slut Walk to march in solidarity with people who have been victims of sexual assault.

At Leather-Levi Weekend we joined forces with the Exiles to create a stop during the Saturday evening cocktail party. We brought juice and champagne (pink, of course!) and the Exiles provided tasty chocolate treats.

We attended the Alameda County Leather (ACL) contest in support of our girl, Kate, who ran and won the title of Ms ACL 2011! We are so proud!!!

On August 27th we are participating in Balls to the Walls Leather Softball Exhibition and Social organized by Jessie Vanciel, Leland Carina, and Daddy Ray Tilton. The SFgoL are so excited to socialize with boys who might be interested in being part of the San Francisco boys of Leather and everyone else who comes to hang out. The National Anthem will be sung by Queen Cougar. Beth Downey and Deborah Isadorah Wade will be umpires.

We have an upcoming slumber party (girls and potential girls only!) at the Center for Sex and Culture on September 9th. Directly following we will be serving lunch at Glide soup kitchen.

Make sure to look for us at Venus’ Playground during Folsom!

I’m so proud of our club and everything that we are working on!

In Leather,
Leland Carina
President, SFgoL

girls and supporters,

First and foremost, we are so happy that the SF Bay Guardian published a cover feature on the SF girls of Leather! The article is so well-written and researched. I find it heartening in relation to the SFgoL, but also for Leatherwomen and our community in general. See the photos and get a link to the full article! If you are in San Francisco– look for the print edition this week! Huge thanks to Amber Schadewald, Mirissa Neff, and Jeffery Cross.

Over the last couple of months, we’ve been busy as usual!

May kicked off with our first ever self-produced fundraiser! Thank you to everyone who came out to play with us. BIG thanks to the SF Citadel for the donation of the space. We made a profit of over $700 dollars which will help us fund future projects. With the bit of seed money, we expect to be able to provide better service. Great job to our VP Kate for taking lead, and to so many of our girls for putting in a lot of hard work to make that event run smoothly.

Mr. S Leather invited us into their back production shop for a work day. We were very happy to be of service to a business that dresses our community so well! (And we didn’t mind the overwhelming smell of leather as we cleaned. Yum.) We’re looking forward to more workdays there in the future.

We also had a social “takeover” night at the SF Citadel. It was a great chance to socialize with each other and our supporters. We’d like to repeat this, so keep an eye out!

We had a very fun jaunt down to Redwood City for Rainbow Skate night. Thanks to Zed for keeping us roller skating!

With thanks to Angel, we were Bronze sponsors of Northwest Leather Celebration (NWLC). This gave us the opportunity to host the meet and greet, opening the contest weekend. It was a wonderful way for us to reach out to a new group of people. We are so proud of our Sargeant at Arms, Pink, for winning the title with her Master, Daniel Basse!

Speaking of Pink, the SFgoL is so very excited to have our first baby on the way! Huge Congratulations to Daniel and Pink! They are expecting a baby girl in October. We have added “I heart SFgoL” baby onsies to our supporter merchandise! (http://www.cafepress.com/SFgoL_supporters)

June brought another SFgoL slumber party. We had a lot to celebrate! June was the one year anniversary of this group’s incarnation! Looking back over the last year it is so overwhelming to realize how much we have accomplished and how much we have learned.

Chris Raisbeck (aka Sister Jezebel of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence) generously lead us in a team building workshop. Chris asked us questions about the importance of working in groups and gave us the space and opportunity to openly praise each other. It was a great opportunity to take stock of how far we’ve come and to also look to the future.

Pride weekend was incredible! We marched in the parade– out and proud– with the Leather Contingent. We also had a table at Leather Alley. We took the opportunity to hand out our new business card size membership and supporter cards. We got quite a lot of interest and hope to see a boost in membership.

Speaking of Pride– the same day that we were marching in San Francisco, our new sister group, the Seattle girls of Leather (SgoL) were marching in Seattle! I’m so heart-warmed and excited to see them starting strong. If you know girls in or near Seattle, please let them know! Their group is being spearheaded by Candace Cantrell. I’ve been so impressed with her leadership and respect toward our group as she works on getting SgoL going.

We have many exciting things coming up in the months ahead! We can’t wait to see our supporters out at Up Your Alley, Leather-Levi Weekend, Folsom, and all the events in between!

Deep love,
Leland Carina
President SFgoL

We had the most amazing slumber party in January! It was a wonderful chance for us to get to know each other better and to deepen our friendships. I was astounded by the amount of pink! Big thanks to Katiekins for hosting us in her beautiful Oakland loft. avaLuna has uploaded an amazing collection of images, to see please visit: http://sfgol.org/photos/slumber-party-jan-2011/

January also brought the official kickoff of our toiletry drive for Casa de las Madres. With thanks to Ms. Cat and Ajax, we were able to launch at the Citadel’s women and trans play party Eclipse! Looking forward, with thanks to many of our girls who are party hosts, you will be able to bring contributions to Tryst, Taboo, Revolution, and Mystique. The next three Exiles’ programs will also have a drop spot. Last, you may drop toiletries off at Wicked Grounds any day of the week during business hours. Our girls Sailor and Lola Sunshine are doing a great job coordinating this drive. Major thanks to the Citadel, the Exiles’, and Wicked Grounds for their support. Special thanks to Jim Sullivan and Mama Reinhardt who have both made substantial donations.

I am very happy to report that in February we had 10 girls who were attending their very first meeting! Also exciting was that we voted in a new Full Member, tehlola.

We helped with the (always fun) Exiles’ Orientation. I personally quite enjoyed having a speaking role opposite Val. Jill and Randy were both excellent in their roles. The attendees were all brand new– none of them had yet attended a play party. I’m very happy that SFgoL is participating in welcoming newbies to the community and also helping to teach basic safety.

One of our members, Keri, has volunteered to take on a new project to organize a mentor/mentee program within the SFgoL. I’m very excited about this, as I believe it will lead to the empowerment of newer girls, in time bringing new leadership to the Leather community.

Please come to our first club fundraiser– Debauchery at the White Horse Tavern in Oakland– on February 20th. We will have the amazing MC talents of Ms. Alotta Boutté. She and Lola Sunshine (both members of SFgoL) will be performing! We are blessed to have amazing raffle prizes including a 6 month subscription to any Kink.com site, rope from Twisted Monk (with thanks to Lamalani,) a gift certificate for Gotham Tattoo (with thanks to Marilyn,) two comps to Eclipse (with thanks to Ms. Cat,) and more! Thanks to tehlola for coordinating this event.

We will be doing outreach at the Sex-positive Fair at Mills College on February 25th. tehlola is also taking lead on this.

Many members of SFgoL will be providing service during Leather Alliance Weekend. Thank you to Chris Raisbeck for coming by our meeting to ask for our help in person and for offering to lead a workshop for us in the future.

You certainly won’t want to miss our girls doing super hot play demos at Eclipse on March 4th, directly following the Leather Alliance Community Awards Dinner.

Pink is organizing an SFgoL Service Day on April 10th at the Citadel to thank August and Phil for their ongoing support. We will be building, cleaning, and painting.

If you know any Leather girls who are not yet a part of our club– please let them know they are invited to our upcoming social events including Zed’s Gay Skate Night in Redwood City on February 23rd, a tour of Kink.com on February 25th, and an SFgoL slumber party on March 4th at the Citadel.

We have new Supporting Members! Huge thanks to DJ Mora, August, Jessie, Tim McElreavy, Daddy Vick, Val, and Rocket! In return you will get a big shiny button that indicates your year of support, a thank you on our web site, and lots of love from our club!

January SFgoL update

The SFgoL have so many great things planned for the new year!

January 22nd will bring our very first SFgoL slumber party! We are looking forward to lots of pink, pajamas, pillow fights and other oh-so-girly things. If you identify as a girl of Leather, please come. If not– keep an eye out for the photos!

We Need Panties! …among other things! Please join us as we kick off a women’s toiletry drive for La Casa de las Madres. This amazing women’s shelter is always in need of basic items like boxes of diapers and tampons, toothpaste and toothbrushes, shampoo and conditioner, and, yes, packs of underwear. A full wish-list of personal care items they can use can be found on their website. We will be starting this toiletry drive off on Jan. 28th with a drop box at Eclipse the SF Citadel’s play party for the women and trans community. Please make sure items are brand new and we will make sure they get to La Casa de las Madres where they will be put to really good use! Can’t make it to Eclipse? Don’t worry, we will have more opportunities and occasions for you to donate to this wonderful cause. Just keep your eyes peeled for more SFgoL events. Thank you in advance! And thanks to our girls Sailor and Lola for heading this up.

We will be once again volunteering to help with the Exiles’ Orientation on February 4th in San Francisco.

Please come to Debauchery at the White Horse Tavern in Oakland on Sunday, February 20th for our first club fundraiser! We are so lucky to have the MC and performance talents of SFgoL member Ms. Alotta Boutté, as well as many fabulous raffle prizes! With thanks to tehlola for coordinating.

In March, keep an eye out for our girls working hard during Leather Alliance Weekend. We’re so excited to help with the event that will bring San Francisco a new Mr. SF Leather.

We are very proud of our Sergeant at Arms, Pink, who is Co-coordinating a committee that aims to bring the Carter Johnson Leather Library to the San Francisco Bay Area for Folsom weekend. Many of our girls will be helping with this project, but more help is needed. If you would like to be involved, please contact impink at gmail dot com

We’re so happy that August and Phil from the Citadel have generously donated the use of their space for a May 1st fundraiser! We have many ideas of how to make this an amazing May Day event. Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more details!

As always, much thanks to the community for your support.

December San Francisco girls of Leather update

Happy holidays from the SFgoL!

I’m happy to announce that the SFgoL have been accepted as a member group of the San Francisco Bay Area Leather Alliance! We are looking forward to the connections this brings and the expanded opportunities it represents for us.

We want to extend an enormous amount of gratitude to the (sadly) dissolved San Francisco boys of Leather. The SFboL donated their remaining assets to us! This was a large donation and makes quite a difference for us in the forming of our club. We are very touched; it is such a sweet gesture and a heartwarming welcome to the community.I’m pleased to report that we had many successful events this month!

We co-hosted the Beer Bust for Mama’s Toys at the SF Eagle Tavern with the SF Leather Daddy’s boys. Together we collected 12 huge garbage bags full of toys and over $1,800 for Sunburst Projects!  Special thanks to boy Adam, Daddy David, Daddy Vick, DJ Mora, Daddy Tony, and boy Mikey for their volunteer efforts in addition to many of our girls.

We had an SFgoL photo shoot in Dolores Park, with the amazing photographer Jules of Queer Lens Photography (http://homophoto.carbonmade.com/). Please stay tuned for images! It was so much fun.Five of our girls volunteered at the ACLC Santa Slave Auction. Three of us were even auctioned off! Thanks to Trinity for her awesome coordinating efforts.

With thanks to Ms. Cat, we had the wonderful opportunity to sell our supporter merchandise at Eclipse. (http://www.cafepress.com/SFgol_supporters)We had 13 girls working the Leather Alliance Holiday Party! If you haven’t checked out Rich’s photos of the event, I would highly suggest it. We’ve got some cute girls! And SFgoL underwear! (http://RichTrove.com) Special thanks to the Leather Alliance for asking me to give the welcoming announcement for the opening of the party as the President of the newest member club.

I want to extend thanks to the Exiles’ for printing our updates in the Exiles’ Fringe.

Special thanks to Mr. S Leather who let us meet in their back production room this month. We very much appreciated the smell of leather!

You can look for us at the following upcoming events… we’re helping with the December 12th Exiles’ Orientation and the Exiles’ Carnal Carnival on Dec 17th.

January will bring the first SFgoL sleepover. It’s for girl’s only and will include pajamas and pillow fights!

We’re still working out the details, but we are planning on having a presence at both IMsL and LLW.

We are hoping to have a couple of our own fundraisers in the new year. Please keep an eye out for details as we solidify them.

If you would like to become a Supporting Member of the SFgoL, please contact me for details.

And last– very special thanks to all community members who have approached me to praise our club or offered help in so many ways. I’m so proud of what we have done already and I’m so excited to see what we will be able to do in the future.

Yours in Leather,

Leland Carina
President SFgoL
